Car Accident | Man Dies In Early-Morning Crash In Far East El Paso

One man was killed in a car crash in far east El Paso early Monday morning.

The Loop 375 northbound at Montana was closed early Monday morning while Special Traffic Investigators pieced together the scene of a deadly accident.

Just after 1:30 a.m. officers arrived to find two men inside a grey Lexus on the side of the road off Loop 375 Northbound just before the Spur 601 exit.

Public information officer Mike Baranyay told KFOX14 "The vehicle was Northbound on the Loop 375 when it lost control for some reason. It struck a light pole came to a rest in a dirt embankment and again the male was found dead here at the scene. Our special traffic investigation unit is still on the scene and conducting the investigation."

The driver is between 30 to 40 years old and was found dead at the scene. The passenger is in his early 20s and was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries. At this time it is unknown if the passenger's injuries are life-threatening.

The speed limit on Loop 375 is 65mph, and officers at the scene told KFOX14 speed is one of the contributing factors to the accident.

The investigation continues and the identity of the two males has not been released.

This is El Paso's 19th traffic related death for 2011 compared to 13 in 2010.
