Gas well mishap in Decatur sends worker to hospital

DECATUR - A malfunction at a gas well site near the Lowe's Home Improvement Store in southern Decatur sent one man to the hospital on Monday with non-life-threatening injuries.

While workers were closing a blowout preventer, a burst of freshwater knocked an employee with Energy Services Company of Bowie to the ground, said Alan Townsend, president of Houston-based Tema Oil and Gas Company, which operates this well and 30 others in the Wise County area.

Townsend estimated the employee fell about four-to-six feet.

The injured employee has not been identified but is expected to make a full recovery.
