FORT WORTH - A railroad employee remained in serious condition Tuesday afternoon in a local hospital after a train ran over him, amputating his legs and an arm, a railroad official said.

Officials identified the victim as BNSF foreman Paul Young, 28, who was at John Peter Smith Hospital.

Young was working on the train Monday night when he was hit by it, Joe Faust, a BNSF Railway Co. spokesman, said on Tuesday.

BNSF was investigating, Faust said.

"We're gathering information on who was there with him and what exactly he was working on," Faust said.

Young, a road foreman of engines, is married and has two young children.

Firefighters and emergency crews were dispatched shortly before 9 p.m. Monday to the 5300 block of Blue Mound Road on a medical call at the BNSF railroad crossing.

They arrived to find the 28-year-old employee injured.
