Will Recalled Peanut Butter Affect Pregnant Women?

We've received a whole lot of calls and emails about this peanut butter recall. Including some from East Texas mothers who are breast feeding or are pregnant. As you can imagine, we had some concerned mothers wanting to know how or if babies, born or unborn- can be affected by salmonella- if the mother were to come down with it, from eating contaminated peanut butter. We spoke with Dr. Charla Spencer with Trinity Clinic Obstetrics and Gynecology, she says if you have the symptoms you will not pass it on to your baby.

"Breastfeeding has been shown to be protected against salmonella. We recommend breast feeding in third world countries and low socioeconomic places because it protects against gastroenteritis but you still have to use good hand washing techniques- so you are protecting your baby from that if you breast feed," says Dr. Spencer.
