HOUSTON -- Three Houston children whose parents were killed in a car accident in West Texas over the weekend were moved to a hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

Josh Berry, 41, and Robin Berry, 40, died on July 2 when a car veered into oncoming traffic on Highway 285 in Fort Stockton and struck their minivan head-on. The family was on their way home from a vacation in Colorado.

Their three children, 9-year-old Peter, 8-year-old Aaron and 6-year-old Willa, were seriously injured.

The kids were rushed to Lubbock Covenant Hospital, where they stayed for several days until they were stable enough to be moved to Houston.

"Robin & Joshua's three children survived the automobile crash that took the lives of their parents, and they are undergoing serious medical procedures now in Houston. So that the children can rest and receive the best medical care possible, the family is asking for no visitors at this time," said longtime family friend Lisa Strauss in a post Thursday morning on Facebook.

The Berrys, who lived in the Briargrove area, were well-known in the community.

"There's really no words to describe it. It's horrible. We're going to miss them," said family friend Emily Weinstein. "They were a very tight-knit family."

Josh Berry unsuccessfully ran for Houston City Council in 2003. Robin Berry was a party planner.

Funeral services for their parents were held Wednesday at Beth Yeshurun synagogue in Houston. The service lasted nearly three hours. More than 1,000 people attended.

"There is no question in my mind that the support for these kids will be overwhelming in the coming weeks, months, years to make sure they are surrounded with the same type of love and warmth and care that Josh and Robin would have given them as parents," said family friend Jason Buchman.
