A tanker truck struck another vehicle on Texas 26 this morning, according to Grapevine Police spokesman Lt. Todd Dearing. The accident, which occurred just south of the intersection with Southlake's Kimball Avenue, has closed the roadway. Southbound traffic had to turn west onto Kimball and northbound traffic had to turn around.
GRAPEVINE-Cleanup from an accident this morning continues on Texas 26, but police have opened eastbound lanes to traffic. Police are waiting for a street sweeper before opening westbound lanes. Traffic is being diverted to Kimball Avenue. The accident closed Texas 26 for several hours at Ponderosa Drive near Kimball Avenue. The driver of a 2005 Dodge Caravan was transported by helicopter ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, said Lt. Todd Dearing, a Grapevine police spokesman. The van slammed into a fully loaded tanker truck traveling eastbound on Texas 26. Police are investigating whether the driver of the van didn't see the tanker truck or tried to beat it, Dearing said. The driver of the tanker was not injured. A small leak was discovered on the tanker truck, which was towed off the roadway, police said.
