A Grand Prairie man was killed Tuesday night after he drove his car into the back of a sedan stopped on a Texas 161 frontage road, left the scene and then smashed into a wall.
Authorities say they believe alcohol was a factor.
Grand Prairie police identified the victim as Edgar A. Neri, 23. He was pronounced dead at Methodist Dallas Medical Center shortly after the second accident.
The wrecks were reported shortly before 8 p.m. at Interstate 30 and Texas 161 in Grand Prairie.
Neri was driving a 1999 Buick Century west on the interstate when he took the Texas 161 exit and hit the back of a 2006 Mazda that was stopped at a traffic light on a frontage road, Grand Prairie police said Wednesday.
Neri drove away from that wreck at high speed, lost control of his car and slammed into a noise reduction wall at the frontage road and British Boulevard, just a few hundred feet from the original crash site, Grand Prairie police said.
It was the fifth traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
