Car Accident | Reality TV star Jewel unharmed in terrible car accident

Posted on Mar 14, 2011

Reality TV star and singer/songwriter Jewel, two months pregnant, was fortunate to survive a horrifying two-vehicle collision in Texas.

The accident occurred Friday afternoon in Stephenville, Texas, as a fire truck rammed the passenger side of her car.

Jewel's representative said in a statement, "The singer was taken to the hospital and current medical tests conducted indicate that she and the baby are doing fine."

Jewel is married to Ty Murray, a nine-time world champion pro rodeo cowboy who she appeared with on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," the couple live in Texas.

Murray and Jewel were cast in the eighth season of "Dancing" until an injury sidelined Jewel, and she was unable to perform. Her husband made it to fourth place with pro dancer Chelsie Hightower.

Jewel will be seen on Bravo's new reality TV seres, "Going Platinum," a new reality competition for singer-songwriters.

Along with Kara DioGuardi, Jewel will serve on the judging panel.

"Hit songs are the backbone of the music industry, and as a publisher, nothing excites me more than finding new songwriting talent," DioGuardi said in a Bravo press statement. "I am happy to be a part of a show that helps up and coming songwriters pursue their dreams, while giving the public a look into the creative process."

"I am excited to be a part of this show because as a songwriter, I understand the dedication and struggle these musicians are going through," Jewel added. "This series will showcase the passion, talent and determination it requires to become a hit songwriter, and in the end we will find the next big music star."

"Going Platinum's" winner will receive a $100,000 cash prize, a publishing deal and a recording deal with RCA/Jive. The series is currently scheduled to premiere in early summer 2011, according to Bravo.

It is not clear if Jewel will make an appearance at the previously announced SXSW scheduled Bravo panel on March 16, from Broadcast & Cable:

"On March 16, Bravo will host a SXSW panel on 'How to Become the Next Big Hitmaker' featuring Jewel, the host and judge of Platinum Hit, songwriter Evan Bogart, Keith Naftaly, SVP of A&R for RCA/Jive at Sony Music Entertainment and Jenn Levy, Bravo VP of development and production. Bravo will also premiere the first trailer for the show, which debuts in early summer 2011."
