Car Accident | Stephenville man dies after April 19 wreck

A Stephenville man died Wednesday from injuries suffered in an April 19 wreck in Stephenville in which the sports utility vehicle he was driving was hit by a van and slammed into the wall of a restaurant.

George Reynolds, 66, was driving a 1988 GMC Suburban north in the 100 block of Vine Street and turned left onto the 300 block of East Washington when the SUV was struck by a 2011 Toyota Sienna van heading east on East Washington. Reynolds' SUV accelerated at a high rate of speed before slamming into the wall of a nearby restaurant, Stephenville Chief of Police Patrick C. Bridges said.

Reynolds was taken by helicopter to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, where he died early Wednesday morning, Bridges said.

The two riders in the Toyota van, a 49-year-old Granbury woman and her 2-year-old daughter, were uninjured in the wreck, Bridges said.

No one inside the restaurant was injured, Bridges said.

An investigation into the wreck shows that Reynolds failed to yield the right of way to the van and that Reynolds was not wearing a seat belt, Bridges said.

This is the first traffic fatality for Stephenville this year.
