ARLINGTON, Texas - One person died early Friday morning after a collision between two vehicles caused one car to land upside-down in a pond.
The dead man was a passenger in that car, but the driver was able to get out and was taken to the hospital, according to Arlington police public information officer Tiara Ellis Richard.
Richard says it's too early to tell if the two cars were racing, but says the people in both cars knew each other.
The accident happened at 5:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of N. Collins at Mossier Valley Road. Both cars were headed north on Collins and were possibly speeding, police said.
The cars collided and skidded into a field on the side of a road, police said. But the silver car kept going and overturned in the pond.
Richards said a man and a woman in the other car were able to walk away from the accident. Police found them north of the crash site.
The driver of the silver car was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The medical examiner will release the dead victim's name after notifying his family.
