An 18-year-old Dallas high school student set to graduate later this month died from apparent alcohol poisoning at a downtown Dallas hotel following a prom after-party Saturday night.
Jonathan Sierra attended the Skyline High School Prom Saturday night and joined his friends at an after-party at the Aloft Hotel at 1033 Young St. in Dallas, according to a Dallas police news release.
Sierra was found dead the next morning at the hotel by his friends, who then called Dallas police and fire departments, the release stated.
The cause of death is believed to be alcohol poisoning but a toxicology report's results are not available yet, police said.
There were no signs of trauma or any violence against Sierra but the homicide unit has been called in to investigate, the release stated.
In a letter that was sent home to students and parents, Skyline High School principal Harold L. Wright wrote that grief counselors have been sent to the school for the next few days.
"This past weekend, Skyline High School suffered the untimely death of one of our students," Wright wrote in the statement. "The student was set to graduate later this month. Our thoughts and prayers are obviously with his family and close friends during this time."
