A 70-year-old man was killed this weekend when he was run over by a vehicle in the 5600 block of Meadowbrook Drive in Fort Worth.
The Tarrant County medical examiner's office identified the victim as Jerry Winton of Fort Worth.
Winton was driving a blue Chevy truck in the parking lot of a business about 11 a.m. Saturday when a man backed his car out of a parking space, and the two vehicles collided, police said.
Both men got out of the vehicles to exchange information. The man got back in his car and began to leave and Winton grabbed the car and was dragged.
Witnesses said Winton let go and was run over. He was pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital.
Police were still looking Sunday for the driver of the other car.
Winton's daughter's Cindy King said Monday her father was a Vietnam veteran who recently got a new job as a mechanical engineer at a business in Granbury. His wife Nancy has medical issues and, while he was out of work for two years, he paid about $1,000 a month for her health insurance.
"He was so happy to be working again," King said. "His main priority was always providing for his family."
Winton rebuilt cars in the family garage, most recently a 1972 Monte Carlo, King said. Saturday, he had gone to a swap meet to look for new tools and had probably stopped at a donut shop to get snacks.
King called his death senseless.
"My dad would never hurt anyone," King said. "He only wanted to get (the other driver's) information. I don't know why someone would do this."
