BEDFORD - As the name implies, Central Drive in Bedford is a central piece of the mobility picture in northeast Tarrant County. Motorists use the road to not only navigate Bedford, but also to travel between the area's older neighborhoods in the south to newer confines in the north -- including Colleyville, Southlake and beyond.
But beginning Friday, it is going to be a bit harder to use Central Drive near Texas 121/183. The on-ramp from Central Drive to westbound Texas 121/183 -- also known as Airport Freeway -- will be closed likely for more than a year.
The move is part of the $2.1 billion North Tarrant Express project -- a massive makeover of the existing lanes, plus the addition of managed toll lanes, on Texas 121/183.
Traffic can still use the westbound frontage road, and will be redirected to the next on-ramp just west of Bedford Road, according to Bluebonnet Contractors, the company in charge of construction.
"As construction continues in the corridor, drivers need to be aware of changing lane configurations and closures," said Bluebonnet spokeswoman Lara Kohl.
