Motorcyclist dies in wreck on S. Broadway

The operator of the motorcycle who died is identified as Kendrick Lee Clark, B/M, age 23 of Palestine Texas. The female driver is identified as Helen Rice Turner, W/F, age 71 of Lindale Texas.

Tyler Police, Fire and Ems responded to a motorcycle / vehicle crash in the intersection of S. Broadway and Independence around 10:44 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, 2011.

Accident investigators determined that a 71 year-old female was traveling northbound on S. Broadway and was in the left turn lane at Independence. She turned left on a yellow blinking light towards the Mall and was struck in the right front passenger side by a 23 year-old motorcycle driver who was traveling southbound in the outside lane. The motorcycle and operator caught on fire upon impact with the vehicle.

The motorcycle operator was transported to East Texas Medical Center by EMS where he died from injuries he sustained from the crash. His identification is being withheld until next of kin has been notified. The female driver was also transported to East Texas Medical Center for observation. Her identity is also being withheld at this time.

The crash is currently under investigation.
