FORT WORTH - A 15-year-old O.D. Wyatt High School student was critically injured when he was attacked by two other students Thursday afternoon, police said.
According to Fort Worth police, the incident began about 1:15 p.m. Thursday when two teens assaulted the sophomore inside the school's cafeteria. Police did not say what prompted the assault.
The victim ran from the two teens but was eventually caught by the suspects off-campus on East Seminary Drive, where the assault continued, police said.
A Fort Worth school security initiative officer saw the victim lying on the ground unconscious and being repeatedly kicked by the two suspects.
The officer tried to intervene but the suspects failed to comply with his orders. One of the teens then began fighting with the officer while the other continued kicking the victim, police said.
The officer eventually deployed his Taser on both teen suspects. The boys, ages 16 and 15, were then taken into custody in good condition and handed over to juvenile authorities.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
Barbara Griffith, a school district spokeswoman, said Friday that "appropriate action has been taken."
"The safety and welfare of our kids are number one and we immediately responded with extra people on duty," Griffith said. "There were no further incidents and apparently no other kids were involved in this."
