A pit bull mix that bit two people in rural Johnson County on July 6 has tested positive for rabies, according to Sheriff Bob Alford.
The dog was trying to get into the house through a window to attack the victims' dogs when the two adults were bitten, said Lt. Tim Jones of the sheriff's department.
The medium-sized female pit bull mix was found along County Road 1106 near Rio Vista.
A local veterinarian tested the dog, and the results were positive, according to the sheriff's department.
Jones said people who had contact with the pit bull mix beginning on June 26 should seek advice from their physician.
Since December 2010, there have been confirmed reports of seven skunks, two horses, one cat, one raccoon and one dog that have tested positive for rabies in unincorporated Johnson Count
