Two people were taken to hospitals after an single-engine airplane lost power on takeoff and crashed at the end of a Granbury Regional Airport runway about 10 a.m. today, said Lynn Lunsford, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.
Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lonnie Haschel said that the pilot was taken by air ambulance to Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital with severe injuries. The passenger had less severe injuries, he said.
No other information about the plane's occupants was released, and Haschel said he didn't know where the passenger was taken for treatment.
The Ultralight Challenger II CW, tail number N979JP, is registered on the FAA's website to Joe Pratt, 1602 Crow Creek Dr. in Granbury.
The fixed-wing airplane with a single, two-cycle engine was manufactured in 2005 by Quad City Ultralights and is classified as experimental.
